Markdown to PDF
To make a PDF from Markdown, open it in RichMarkdown, check how it looks, and use Save as PDF / print. Only the document is printed, not the rest of the page, and the text stays selectable and searchable.
In short
- Open the
.mdfile → check it → ▾ → Save as PDF / print → choose Save as PDF in the print dialog. - The PDF is made by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded.
- Uses the print dialog your browser already has, so it works the same as printing any web page.
Steps
- Open the RichMarkdown editor, then Open file… with your
.mdfile, or paste the Markdown into a new note. - Check the page. The PDF follows what you see, so fix any heading or table issues first.
- Click the ▾ beside Export .md and choose Save as PDF / print.
- In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF (Chrome and Edge) or Save to PDF (macOS), then save.
Tips for a clean PDF
- Use real headings. Headings start new sections and build the outline that PDF readers show.
- Keep tables narrow. Very wide tables are cut at the page edge; split them or reduce the number of columns.
- Turn off headers and footers in the print dialog if you do not want the date and page address printed on every page.
- Check the layout in the print preview before saving.
Limits
- The PDF has no table of contents, page numbers added by RichMarkdown, or custom theme yet. Those are planned.
- Math formulas written in LaTeX are printed as text.
- The print dialog's options (paper size, margins) are the browser's own.
FAQ
Is the PDF text searchable?
Yes. The browser prints real text, not a picture of the page, so you can select, copy and search it.
Why does the PDF look different from the editor?
The print view uses light colours and page margins, so a dark screen prints on white paper. Headings, lists and tables keep their structure.
Can I add page numbers or a table of contents?
Not yet. Use the browser print options for page numbers, and plan on a table of contents for a later version.
